Welcome!

Welcome to South Lantau and welcome to the new version of the South Lantau Families blog!

There is so much going on around here these days, it's getting hard to keep up. SLF will try to coordinate with tutors, venues and event organizers in the area to keep you all up to date with what's on offer.

If you have a family friendly service to offer or a great event to promote then send us the details.

A community site needs a community, so send in your pictures, updates, links and ideas to share and get involved!

Prince and Princess of the Hills

Living under a rock (as I often do) has many benefits (the dark, blessed silence) but it does mean that many things pass me by entirely. Such is the Prince and Princess of the Hills series which has apparently been happening right under my nose. So to speak.

If you also live under a rock and want to see what you've been missing, then click through to the Lantau Buffalos site and prepare to be impressed by these emerging athletes.

The Lantau Buffalos and Lantau Base Camp have pooled their considerable expertise (and energy) in organizing this great event. It's amazing just far people in our community are willing to go to provide opportunities for our kids. The next and final round will take place on April 21st. Click here for more information and here for the registration form.

Keep on running!

BEER DASH THIS SATURDAY - HELP NEEDED

A friendly reminder about the beer dash and a cry for help! Mel still needs three road marshalls to help out this Saturday to stand at the road for crossing to Palm Beach. It'll just be from 10.30 to 12.00 so if you have couple of hours to spare, drop Mel a line on melaniepotgieter@hotmail.com

Yay Singing! Lantau Youth Choir is GO!!!

I've already gone back on my word - instead of working on my updates I've started a choir! Actually, that's a total misrepresentation... the wonderful Rachel Thomas is starting a choir and I will be her faithful assistant and bask in her reflected glory.

Full details are not yet finalized, but you can find more information on the Bizzie Lizzie blog (yay for not typing it twice).

Auditions start on May 10th and first rehearsal is on May 19th. Can we please have a show of interest via email on bizzielizzie.hk@gmail.com so that we can schedule audition sessions.

Please note that the choir is open to children of 7 years and up. If you have a younger child who can't wait to start on their musical training, I can recommend the Dalcroze class with Sui Ming

Yay for new activities!

Yeah, I know

It's been a while and I'm a bit behind the times. What can I say? I've been bizzie (get it?) setting up the online store and all of my computer time has been devoted to that. Well, that and funny cat videos (seriously, look up the barking cat video).

Apparently life has continued around me with new events and classes springing up all over the place. We had not one, but TWO official Easter Egg hunts a couple of weeks ago. This place is going crazy.

So the promise this week is to catch up on all the great information you busy people have been sending me, put up pics of recent events and generally try to be a better person.

Only not today. Today I am going to the beach.

Message from Mel about the Beer Dash

The Beerdash is our own home grown charity race. We have over 300 participants racing on sat 10 March. It is a fun day with dress up and a touch of beer.
If you do not have a previous engagement between 9 am and 12:00pm we are still in need of 3 road marshals and 2 beer station marshals.
Alternatively if you could help make some sandwhiches on friday morning at 10am for about 1 hour PLEASE contact me ASAP.

Unfortunately the BEERDASH filled up super fast, but if you would still lke to make a contribution towards PALS and the LBA, please bring along your money or just come along to cheer the participants along. You can stand along the old Tung Chung Road where it meets the South Lantau Road, or at PAlm Beach or the Stoep. the first runner will be coming passed from about 10:45am to 12:00

The Not So Super Incinerator Project

Have you had your say about the government's latest plan to blight our environment yet? If you're a bit shaky on the facts, head off to the Living Islands Movement and get accurate information on the proposed incinerator.

If what you read leaves you fuming, click on this link to sign an online petition registering your opinion on the plans.

Feel that it's all hopeless and that the government never listens? Keep in mind that LIM and other concerned parties have already managed to block a number of block-headed projects and are not known for backing down however bleak things may appear.

If, on the other hand, you just love chimneys (perhaps you're a steeplejack, for example) and agree with the government that waste disposal plants make great tourist attractions (yes, they have tried that argument) then sit back and wait for the barges.

Happy Campaigning!
